Kenmore Village

The picturesque village of Kenmore is an idyllic retreat in the Scottish Highlands that is nestled on the banks of Loch Tay, within Kenmore village you can find the luxurious Kenmore Hotel that makes the most of the loch-side views. The Kenmore Hotel is a key part of the village and is reportedly the oldest hotel in Scotland with it being commissioned in 1572.

History of Kenmore

Kenmore has been established since the 16th century, however, was previously known as Balloch. As Sir Colin Campbell started building Balloch Castle on the other side of the River Tay the village was moved. In 1760, the village of Kenmore was designed around a plan created by the Earl of Breadalbane.

What to see in Kenmore

While Kenmore is a small and quiet village, there is plenty to see and do. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful riverside walk along the River Tay and also enjoy fly fishing along the river for a chance to capture some of the finest salmon that Scotland has to offer. Kenmore is also situated on the banks of Loch Tay, where you can find a range of loch cruises to enjoy life on the water and explore the wildlife and take in the stunning surroundings.

Kenmore also offers Taymouth Castle which is an incredible neo-gothic castle which provides a fantastic golf course and stunning grounds to enjoy. The historic castle is also a great photo opportunity and a chance to imagine what life was like many years ago. At one time, the castle even hosted Queen Victoria.

Kenmore also has a range of other attractions including the Croft Moraig Stone Circle and the Scottish Crannog Centre which offers a full reconstruction of traditional Iron Age Crannogs which are round wooden loch dwellings. Across the loch are several islands include the Isle of Holy Women which used to be a nunnery in the 12th century.
